Phoebe's Walk

This post was written by Phoebe from the Church School at Delmar Presbyterian Church.

Most of you know about my trash pick-up (AKA Phoebe’s Walk). I got the idea from walking around and just seeing how much trash there is. I think we should stop littering because it's really bad for the environment and litter can go in oceans and nature and animals can really get hurt from it. So that's how and why I got this idea.

I thought it would make sense to do the walk around Earth Day, which is on April 22. So, we decided to do the walk on Saturday, April 25.

During the trash pick-up, we will walk around the church’s neighborhood and pick up all the trash we see. We’ll start by meeting up outside of the church to break up into groups and get supplies. The Sunday school will figure out routes for each group to take to make sure that we cover the entire neighborhood. We will also provide trash bags, gloves, and hand sanitizer.

Afterwards we will meet back at the church to see how much trash we collected and to have a snack to celebrate (after washing hands!).

Here are all of the details for whoever wants to join us!

What: Phoebe’s Walk (neighborhood trash pick-up)

When: Saturday, April 25 from 1:30 to 3:30pm

Where: Meet at church (585 Delaware Ave) and we will walk around the neighborhood from there.

Some things you might want to bring along:

  • Your own gardening gloves (if you don’t want to use plastic gloves)

  • A wagon (so you don’t have to carry your trash bags)

  • Music to listen to during the walk

  • Water bottle

  • Sunscreen, sun glasses, and hat if it’s sunny
