Malachi offers a great Advent question: "Who can endure the day of his coming?". In fact, the other texts for this week ask great questions as well. In Philippians we are asked who will be "pure and blameless" and in Luke who will prepare the way of the Lord? These questions do not let us be comfortable with the status quo. Instead they poke at our life of faith by questioning our worthiness, readiness and willingness for Christ's coming. The scripture from Malachi requires a fearless moral inventory of our life's readiness for Christ's coming.
The theme for this week is peace. What connections between an honest assessment of our ethical/moral lives and peace can you make? What would God's refiner's fire look like in your life or in our church?
